Does taking a zinc supplement help with seborrheic dermatitis?
While zinc supplements aren't typically highlighted as a primary treatment for seborrheic dermatitis, topical zinc products are quite effective. Zinc pyrithione, when applied directly to the skin, has strong antifungal and antibacterial properties that can help manage symptoms.
Topical zinc pyrithione is available in several forms:
* Shampoos (like Head & Shoulders)
* Face washes or bars
* Creams and sprays
* Solutions
The topical form works well because the fine zinc particles adhere to your skin even after rinsing, continuing to fight the fungus that contributes to seborrheic dermatitis.
A MySebDermTeam member shared: "I've struggled with SD on my nose for about three years, and I'm finally seeing some results... I 100 percent recommend a pyrithione zinc bar of soap! It has helped so much."
If you're considering any supplement, it's best to discuss it with your dermatologist first. They can recommend whether topical zinc products or other treatments would be most beneficial for your specific situation.

I was prescribed zinc... it's alright. I think it works better when taken with other vitamins like "D" and magnesium.🙂
