Are they too harsh for Seb derm ? What about if you need more moisture for your scalp? Also any suggestions if you do use a sulfate shampoo for color treated hair that also help with your Seb derm? Thanks!

Opinions on sulfate shampoos vary widely; some people believe they are effective cleansers that help remove oil and dirt, while others argue they can be too harsh, stripping natural oils and causing dryness or irritation. Ultimately, whether sulfate shampoos are suitable depends on individual hair types and sensitivities.
Healthline TODAY
Overview of Sulfate Shampoos
Sulfate shampoos contain surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). These ingredients help create lather and effectively remove dirt and oil from hair. However, opinions on their use vary widely.
Pros of Sulfate Shampoos
Effective Cleansing
Sulfates are powerful cleansers that can remove excess oil and product buildup.
They are particularly beneficial for those with oily hair or scalps.
Lathering Effect
Many users enjoy the rich lather that sulfate shampoos provide, which can enhance the washing experience.
Cons of Sulfate Shampoos
Potential for Dryness
Sulfates can strip natural oils from hair, leading to dryness and frizz, especially for those with curly, dry, or color-treated hair.
Skin Irritation
People with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema or rosacea may experience irritation from sulfates.
Misconceptions About Safety
There are myths suggesting sulfates are carcinogenic, but scientific evidence does not support these claims. Most dermatologists agree that sulfates are safe for general use.
Who Should Avoid Sulfates?
Individuals with dry, curly, or color-treated hair may benefit from sulfate-free alternatives.
Those with sensitive skin or scalp conditions should consider avoiding sulfates to prevent irritation.
Conclusion
Sulfate shampoos are not inherently bad, but their suitability depends on individual hair types and sensitivities. Users should assess their specific needs and consider sulfate-free options if they experience dryness or irritation.

Guess I answered my own question and will stick with sulfate free. I thought I saw that before but thought I'd ask. Just wasn't sure with how dry and treated my scalp is if I needed sulfate. I am pretty good about massaging in the shampoo for a couple of minutes to work it in and get the build up out so I think if you wash your hair at least once a week and are thoral you should be good. I wash mine 3 time a week. Which to Choose?
Which to Choose?
Choose sulfate-free if: Your hair is dry, color-treated, damaged, or your scalp is sensitive or prone to irritation.
Choose sulfates if: Your hair is very oily, you use a lot of styling products, or you need a powerful deep clean occasionally.
Good sulfate-free alternatives use gentler cleansers like Decyl Glucoside or Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate,

There are also plenty of sulfate free shampoos out there with good cleaning agents. A good indicator is if they lather well.

Are sulfate shampoos too harsh for seborrheic dermatitis, and what about moisture for your scalp?

Everyone's seborrheic dermatitis is unique, so what works for one person may not work for another. While the search results don't specifically mention sulfates, they do emphasize choosing products carefully and avoiding ingredients that irritate your scalp.

For moisture concerns, it may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your scalp hydrated can actually help prevent excess oil production. Natural oils like mineral, olive, or peanut oil can help moisturize your scalp. You can apply oil in the evening, cover with a shower cap, and wash it out in the morning.

When looking for shampoos, focus on these beneficial ingredients:
* Ketoconazole
* Selenium sulfide
* Zinc pyrithione
* Salicylic acid
* Coal tar

Talk to your dermatologist before trying new products to ensure they won't irritate your scalp or worsen symptoms. For color-treated hair specifically, be aware that some medicated shampoos can affect your hair color. Shampoos containing coal tar or selenium sulfide could damage or discolor light-colored hair. If you have chemically treated hair and use selenium sulfide, wash your hair for at least five minutes after application to prevent discoloration.

A MySebDermTeam member shared success rotating multiple shampoos: "I have been rotating six shampoos... It turns out that so far, Dermoia eczema and psoriasis shampoo is. It has manuka honey, aloe vera, colloidal oatmeal, vitamin B3, zinc, and salicylic acid."

Consider choosing alcohol-free and fragrance-free styling products if you need them. Your dermatologist can recommend specific products based on your hair type and color treatment needs.
