Glad you used it, Janet. For many of us our insurance does not cover it and it’s so expensive out of pocket. I truly am happy for the ones who have gotten relief. We do have hope that a good product is out there and hopefully the cost will be able to afford for all of us.

Are natural remedies and botanicals effective against Malassezia yeast, and how can you choose a safe shampoo?

Natural Antifungal Options

Some botanical ingredients have shown antifungal properties that may help with seborrheic dermatitis:

* Tea tree oil - Contains antifungal properties that can help control Malassezia yeast overgrowth. Shampoos with 5% tea tree oil can be applied to the scalp for 3-10 minutes before rinsing. It should always be diluted and never consumed orally.

* Honey - Research indicates that certain honeys, like Manuka and Agastache honey, have antifungal activity against Malassezia species.

A MySebDermTeam member shared success with a homemade remedy: "I've been using a tea tree and geranium essential oil mixture I made, and it's been working great lately!"

Important Cautions

Essential oils can irritate sensitive skin and must be properly diluted with carrier oils. Always patch test new products before full application. Tea tree oil is specifically not recommended for other types of eczema.

Choosing a Malassezia-Safe Shampoo

Look for shampoos containing proven antifungal ingredients like:
* Ketoconazole
* Selenium sulfide
* Ciclopirox
* Coal tar

These ingredients help reduce yeast levels on the skin and are available in both over-the-counter and prescription strengths.
