Janice, Seb derm is a really hard condition to live with. During a bad flare my skin on my face darkens, it itches and feels raw. I use sea salt and Dead Sea salt baking soda and oatmeal and soak my face and head for about ten minutes. I then wash my hair with the medicated shampoo, rinse very well my skin and hair. Be sure to dry completely your hair. That is healing to me, but remember we all heal differently and our genetic make up is different.

It's understandable to feel uncertain about your diagnosis. Seborrheic dermatitis shares symptoms with several skin conditions, which can make diagnosis tricky. The main conditions it's commonly confused with include:

• Psoriasis - causes scaly, dry patches
• Atopic dermatitis (eczema) - causes dry, itchy, inflamed skin
• Contact dermatitis - causes itchy rashes from allergic reactions
• Rosacea - causes facial redness or discoloration
• Folliculitis - inflamed hair follicles If you're concerned about your diagnosis, it's important to know that doctors use specific methods to distinguish seborrheic dermatitis from other conditions. They look at:

• The specific location of your symptoms
• How the affected areas appear under microscope examination
• The pattern of flare-ups and clear skin periods
• Your complete symptom history

Don't hesitate to discuss these concerns with your healthcare provider - they can explain how they arrived at your diagnosis and address any worries you have about other possible conditions.
