Members connected over the frustration of managing seborrheic dermatitis, sharing their struggles with persistent itching, hair loss, and the emotional toll of trial-and-error treatment. Several members found relief through rotating shampoos like Head and Shoulders Bare, ketoconazole, coal tar, and T-Gel, along with topical steroids like clobetasol, while others recommended gentler approaches including Dermazen products, coconut oil, aloe vera, sea salt rinses, and switching to fragrance-free laundry detergents to reduce scalp irritation. A recurring theme was the importance of patience, reducing stress, avoiding harsh products that cause irritation, and remembering that what works for one person may not work for another.

I’ve found that dye free scent free laundry detergent is the way to go. Also don’t use the pre measured pods you usually don’t need the full amount of detergent that’s in the pod. I have found that I can use half the recommended amount of detergent and still get my clothes clean I make my load 2/3 size and set the load size on ex-large on the machine. I double rinse everything. I use towels once and change pillowcases daily-seem extreme? Well maybe but it works out well for me I believe from my own experience over the many years I’ve had this issue on my scalp that for me it does spread when it oozes onto adjoining skin and keeping your linens clean will make a difference. There is also a product on the market called Lysol laundry sanitizer free and clear. It has zero bleach and it kills bacteria and viruses 🦠 I’ve been using it also and it has allowed me to discontinue the use of bleach and has given me an alternative solution to bleach. I don’t know if it’s going to make a difference in the long run but I think it’s worth trying. It might be a bit more expensive but in the short term but if it helps to control the crud on the skin I think 🤔 maybe it’s worth a shot 🐭🤷

I was given a steroid to apply to my scalp at night and it has really helped. Ketoconazole Shampoo and Clobetasol steroid together has mine under control most of the time.

It is what it is and how I react to it.it has not caused me to take another drink of ETOH. it is a Bitch though and hair cut to 1/16". wash head daily using multiple shampoos.Nizorall, T+PLUS, DHS, DERMAREST,, ZINC, 2% ketoconazole cream after washing and Triamcinolone cream 0.1%.now nothing seems to be helpingalso treating another condition seborrheic Keratosis in groin area so far 5 appointments freezing with liquid nitrogen so again it is what it is and as long as I can accept that it is the way it is supposed to be, I can have moments of serenity.

Hi Maria, sounds like the shampoo is the problem as you mentioned it makes your scalp irritated each time. Could be an allergic reaction. Try a different shampoo like the head and shoulders bare with limited ingredients (it only has 9 including water) most shampoos have 15 or more so more room for an allergic reaction. Also sulfate free shampoo in general will be gentler on your scalp. Head and shoulders bare is sulfate, silicon, and dye free. Also good and color safe if you dye your hair. So just keep that I n mind when looking for another shampoo. I personally think the prescription ones are too harsh for our scalps. I'm staying with bare for now as it seems to be helping. I'll keep you posted.
