I have to get heavy makeup done for a dance competition. An event makeup artist is doing the makup but I want to be able to prime/prep my skin the best way this time to offset lines and flaring of my seb derm around my nostrils. I had a lot of build up that was really embarrassing last time and when I tried to flake it away I got red. I need to try and prevent this in that area and skin around my mouth. What a fun event — good luck at the competition! Prepping your skin well beforehand is such a smart move, especially around those tricky areas like the nose, mouth, and hairline.

Here are some steps to consider before your makeup artist gets started:

- Cleanse gently the night before and morning of — use a mild, fragrance-free, alcohol-free cleanser to calm the skin without stripping it
- Moisturize thoroughly right after cleansing — a noncomedogenic (non-pore-clogging), fragrance-free moisturizer can reduce flakiness and give makeup a smoother surface to grip
- Do not pick or flake skin beforehand — this causes redness and irritation that's harder to cover
- Apply a gentle primer over moisturized skin — look for one that is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and oil-free to smooth texture without triggering a flare For foundation, a lightweight, oil-free liquid formula with buildable coverage tends to work well under lights and over sensitive skin. It can cover discoloration without clogging pores. Look for one labeled fragrance-free and noncomedogenic.

It's worth letting your makeup artist know about your seborrheic dermatitis so they can adjust their product choices. A heads-up goes a long way — they want you looking flawless out there too! 💃
