What shampoos can you alternate with Selsun Blue to reduce dryness?

If Selsun Blue (which contains selenium sulfide) is too drying for your scalp, you have several options to rotate with it. Many MySebDermTeam members find that alternating between different medicated shampoos brings better results.

Here are some alternatives to consider:

* Zinc pyrithione shampoos (like Head & Shoulders, DermaZinc, or Zincon) - These are mild enough for daily use and can help reduce flaking
* Ketoconazole shampoos (like Nizoral) - An antifungal option that many find effective
* Salicylic acid shampoos (like Neutrogena T/Sal) - These help exfoliate the scalp
* Coal tar shampoos - Another option, though be cautious if you have light-colored hair as it may cause discoloration

One MySebDermTeam member shared success with rotating six different shampoos, finding that Dermoia eczema and psoriasis shampoo (containing manuka honey, aloe vera, colloidal oatmeal, vitamin B3, zinc, and salicylic acid) worked best for reducing symptoms and itching.

Between washes with medicated shampoos, you might also consider using a gentle, moisturizing shampoo to give your scalp a break. Natural oils applied overnight before washing can help with dryness too.

Talk with your dermatologist about which rotation schedule and products would work best for your specific scalp needs.
