Overview
Verdeso is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in people aged 3 months and older. Verdeso is also known by its drug name, desonide.

Verdeso is a low-potency corticosteroid. Verdeso is believed to work by suppressing immune system activity.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Verdeso is applied to affected areas twice daily.

Verdeso comes in the form of foam.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Verdeso lists common side effects including headache, burning sensation at the application site, cold symptoms, viral infection, and increased blood pressure. Topical corticosteroids can also cause skin atrophy (thinning, wrinkling and visible depressions of the skin), allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, stretch marks, and thickening of the skin.

Rare but serious side effects listed for corticosteroids include glaucoma, high blood sugar, and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression (a dysfunction of the adrenal system). Children may be more susceptible to adrenal dysfunction due to their larger skin surface area to body mass ratios.
