Luxiq (Betamethasone valerate) for Sebhorreic dermatitis

Overview
Luxiq is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat inflammation and itching on the scalp associated with skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids. Luxiq is also known by its drug name, betamethasone valerate.

Luxiq is a corticosteroid of mid-range potency. Luxiq is believed to work by suppressing immune system activity.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Luxiq is applied to affected areas twice daily, in the morning and at night.

Luxiq comes in the form of foam, which is dispensed from a can.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Luxiq lists common side effects including burning, itching, and stinging. Topical corticosteroids can also cause skin atrophy (thinning, wrinkling, or visible depressions of the skin), allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, stretch marks, and thickening of the skin.

Rare but serious side effects listed for corticosteroids include glaucoma, high blood sugar, and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression (a dysfunction of the adrenal system).
