Overview
Kenalog is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat skin inflammation and itching associated with skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids. Kenalog is also known by its drug name, triamcinolone acetonide.

Kenalog is a corticosteroid of medium potency. Kenalog is believed to work by suppressing immune system activity.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Kenalog is applied topically to the affected area three or four times a day.

Kenalog comes in a spray.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Kenalog lists side effects including burning, itching, irritation, dry skin, skin atrophy (thinning, wrinkling, or visible depressions of the skin), stretch marks, acne, folliculitis (infected hair follicles), excessive hair growth, allergic rashes, hypopigmentation, and infections.

Rare but serious side effects for corticosteroids include high blood sugar and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression (a dysfunction of the adrenal system).
