Itching with seborrheic dermatitis can be really frustrating, but there are several strategies that may help bring some relief. Here are some options worth trying:
- Apply a cool, wet cloth to affected areas to soothe irritation
- Rinse skin with cold water at the end of every shower
- Try refrigerating your topical creams before applying — the cool temperature can provide extra relief
- Use an over-the-counter corticosteroid cream containing desonide, fluocinolone, or hydrocortisone
- Moisturize regularly with a fragrance-free moisturizer to support your skin barrier
- Rotate between at least two dandruff shampoos to keep them effective
- Blow-dry hair on the cool setting, or let it air-dry One thing to be really mindful of — try hard not to scratch, even though it's tempting! Scratching can trigger an itch-scratch cycle that actually makes itching worse, and can lead to sores or even hair loss.
Stress can also trigger flare-ups, so practices like meditation, deep breathing, or light exercise may help reduce itching indirectly.
Always check with your dermatologist before trying something new, as what works for one person may not work for another.

I get veins from the top of my head that the wax comes out of and a nerve that goes so tight right before a break out, that feels like a volcano is going to go off, then shoots the pain down to my ear only on the right side and doesn't stop for days until the wax releases in. Rows of scales, after 2. Years I have learned to stick to washing 3 times a week and if the part builds up, wash it there immediately.. I know a couple of gals with long hair that call it a root wash, Chinese gals do it routinely, that's the secret to keeping their hair so healthy and long.
