Seb Derm Vs Atopic Eczema?
A MySebDermTeam Member asked a question 💭

I don't have any dandruff or flaking, just furious itching.
All of the seb derm remedies tried; ketoconazole, zinc, coal tar shampoos have not worked or have left me with an irritated scalp. Might it be eczema?
Is there any difference?

Thank you for your reply.
I've used Head & Shoulders and virtually every other medicated shampoo out there to no avail. I've seen two dermatologists who only recommended medicated shampoos or steroids. I know this is not a long term solution.
At this point I will do anything to stop the itching.
I read that tamanu oil is effective. Do you know anything about this?

I've heard Dr's say that severe itching and even dandruff is a form of eczema. Very very mild unlike mine which started with dryness to open oozing lesions to losing most of my har and it going to my ears, down my upper body and everwhere. Some are just limited to their head or hands. But I think you're doing best by trying to address it. Have you tried head and shoulders? I know some that can keep it at bay with it. If you're into all natural, Dermoia is a good product.

I found an oil made by Sauve at Dollar General (not sure they have them where you live but big in the East Coast). It’s Castro oil with mango butter. Smells amazing. I rub into my scalp in the evening and yes it jacks my hair but I do it when I don’t care! It softens and helps rid the scales. I do it as often as possible as Dupixent is slowly but steadily working. If you can put a bandana on to sleep even better.

I do not. My Derm said that no oil made for the skin is bad if you can tolerate it. That’s why I do it at night and my hair stands on end but at least my scalp is getting hydrated. Preventing the scales. Mine was so tight it would throb and felt like my entire scalp was being pulled. Touch one spot and felt it everywhere.
