Has Ketoconazole Ever Worked For You?
A MySebDermTeam Member asked a question 💭

It seems to be the number one thing recommended over the counter, and even prescribed by dermatologists. I have never seen a difference with it either way, and I wonder if it actually works for some with SebDerm.

It helped a little bit when I had oozing ulcers on my head and my ears would just drain so bad like a faucet I had to sleep on a towel. But that's because it's actually more for if it's infected. Once it starts to dry, it has not been affective for me. I'm doing Dupixent because it was so severe everywhere, I couldn't function. The pain was over the top every minute of every day for months on end. Now that it's getting under some manageable control, I'm going to an allergist and making some consumption changes and trying to get to the root causes. I think holistic is the way to go because I think it's triggered by environment, toxins and/or allergies so holistic helps get to the root cause.

I use prescription Ketoconazole shampoo for S.D. and would be lost without it. I use it at least weekly and have been using it for years now. I also use prescription Chlobetasol Propianate topical solution sparingly if I need it between shampoos. (Dermatologists won't refill this often due to skin thinning issues.) O.T.C. shampoos are useless for my scalp - I've tried them all. I even find rx ketocanazole shampoo useful on limbs (arms and legs) sometimes!

It keeps it controllable for me. Doesn't go away, but gets worse if I stop using it. 🤷

It didn't help me at all. I've had much better luck going with a holistic approach.

It does not work for me,it only works if your seb derm is caused by mallsthesia yeast which all humans have but sometimes it overgrows for unknown reasons or maybe ph or diet or ? I have used all of the over the counters and none work.I think my problem is more of keratin pilaris.Have you read about that one because it can be similar to seb derm.. oh boy do I hate this yukky stuff and I recently found out I also have acintic keratosis which is from too much sun as a kid and young person, never wore hats. Red hair freckles and pale skin. It often can precede squamous cell carcinoma which I had 2 of and 1 basal cell. I can tell by looking at you that you do not have the same risk levels as I do, I am now taking a chemotherapy oral pill and the stuff is melting off of me. I hope forever. I wish you the best. Whatever you do do not pick at the scales or whatever you can pull your own hair out,k I did that.Hope this is not TMI.
If you go and see the dermatologist or your regular doc and ask them to remove a peice and look under microscope they can tell if you have that yeast in a large amount vs normal. Plus they can biopsy it and I did not even feel it because they numb it and then boom, its done.I am 50, so much older than you look.
Evveryone on here should see a Dermatologist if they have tried the over the counter stuff not just once but like one bottle worth and no changes for the better occur.
